On Friday, local officials and media previewed the upcoming Bargain Grocery in Troy, which will open later this summer. The store aims to address high food insecurity in the area, where one in nine New York families with children sometimes lack enough to eat, as reported by the New York State Comptroller’s Office.
Located at 558 River St., this new location is the second Bargain Grocery in New York, following the Utica store that opened in 2018. Supported by Compassion Coalition and sponsored by Empire State Development and First Columbia, Bargain Grocery offers affordable food through strategic buying and partnerships with vendors, acquiring surplus food items and donations to keep prices low.
