“TROY — With ShopRite to close its five local stores before Christmas due to poor sales, one might think that there is no room left for a new grocery store to enter the Capital Region market — especially in downtown Troy.
But that’s because you haven’t met Mike Servello, the founding pastor of Redeemer Church out of Utica, which also operates a church on Schoolhouse Road in Guilderland.
Servello also operates a nonprofit called Compassion Coalition in Utica that is funded by his innovative low-cost grocery store called Bargain Grocery. Now, Servello has plans to open a new location for the store on River Street in Troy as part of a larger urban redevelopment project being undertaken by the Latham real-estate development firm First Columbia.”
