Wednesday, April 5th, we had the honor to be visited by Congressman Paul Tonko. Congressman Paul Tonko represents the 20th Congressional District, which includes all of Albany and Schenectady Counties and parts of Rensselaer and Saratoga Counties. He and his staff embarked on a comprehensive tour of Bargain Grocery and the newly acquired 143,000-square-foot warehouse of Compassion Coalition. The visit made the Congressman familiar with Bargain Grocery’s operations and its parent company, Compassion Coalition’s, humanitarian programs.
Accompanied by Kelly Quist-Demars, 20th Congressional District Operations Manager, Congressman Tonko’s visit began at Bargain Grocery, a market in a West Utica food desert known for providing affordable and quality groceries to the community. Congressman Tonko conversed with store employees and customers as he perused the aisles.
From Bargain Grocery, Congressman Tonko and staff proceeded to Compassion Coalition’s sprawling warehouse facility. This 143,000-square-foot warehouse underscores Compassion Coalition’s commitment to aiding the less fortunate and enhancing the region’s social fabric. Newly acquired, this warehouse is poised to play a pivotal role in the organization’s efforts to efficiently store and distribute essential goods to all New York State.
Pastor Mike Servello Sr, the CEO of Compassion Coalition, articulated his vision to Congressman Paul Tonko for the new warehouse, underscoring its potential to amplify their efforts to all New York State, including the capital district, in combating food insecurity, homelessness, and other pressing societal issues. The facility is anticipated to facilitate streamlined operations, enabling Compassion Coalition to serve an even broader cross-section of individuals and families in need.
