Cynthia Jones, MD, MPH, is the Chief Medical Officer for Mosaic Health. Mosaic Health is a network of Federally Qualified Health Centers in the Finger Lakes and the Mohawk Valley regions. She also practices at Mosaic’s Health Center in Utica.
Dr. Jones received her bachelor’s degree in psychology from Duke University, a master’s degree in public health from the University of Illinois, and her medical degree from the University Of Illinois College Of Medicine. She completed her Residency in Family Medicine at Cook County Hospital in Chicago, Illinois, where she was appointed Chief Resident. She also completed a Faculty Development Fellowship from the Cook County Hospital’s Department of Family Medicine. She is a Board-Certified physician through the American Board of Family Practice.
Dr. Jones began her longstanding medical career at Duke University’s Cancer Research lab and in the Department of Pediatric Respiratory and Pulmonary Disease clinics as a lab assistant. After completing her medical degree and residency, she was appointed an attending physician at the Osteopathic Hospital, Cook County Hospital in Chicago, and Ingalls Hospital in Harvey, Illinois. She also was a medical consultant for the State of Illinois, Office of Inspector General’s Department of Healthcare and Family Services.
Dr. Jones has dedicated her career to helping those who have difficulty helping themselves, as is evident by the career choices she has made. One of her earliest positions was in programs at the Cook County Hospital’s “New Start” program, where she acted as a principal investigator in treating substance-abused pregnant women and their children. Later she was instrumental in the opening of the Family Christian Health Center, a Federally Qualified Health Center in Harvey, IL. At the Family Christian Health Center, she held several positions during the ten years she was with the Center as an attending physician, Medical Director, Chief Medical Director, and Interim CEO.
In 2010, Dr. Jones returned to her upstate New York roots (having been born and raised in Rochester, NY to assist Mosaic Health with the opening of the Utica Community Health Center. She has been an integral part of the success of the health center, always advocating for her patients and assuring not only that their health needs are met but also their emotional and social needs are addressed.
Dr. Jones serves on the Board of Directors of the Rescue Mission of Utica and Compassion Coalition, a member of the New York State Cancer Advisory Council, and President of the Board of the American Heart Association of Greater Utica. She is a member of the American Academy of Family Physicians. Dr. Jones is a member of Redeemer Church and serves on the worship team.
Dr. Jones lives in New Hartford, NY, with her husband, Robert. Dr. Jones and her husband have a daughter, Taylor (son-in-law Trevor), and three grandchildren. Dr. Jones enjoys cooking, singing, and classic movies.
